Meeting of the Minds
Having a brain injury is a unique experience, all the more so when you are young. Meeting of the Minds is a monthly get together at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. This is a support group where monthly topics will be discussed, friendships forged, and a safe place where anyone can learn and grow from each other.
Minds on the Run
Minds on the Run is a running group at the outpatient department. Members will first be evaluated personally by a physical therapist. Judging qualities as far as balance, gait and form. Increasing our ability for mobility eventually leading to us being able to run in a smooth motion. Challenges such as physical fatigue, coordination and attentiveness will also addressed as members will be pushing their limits while under the careful supervision of professionals. With the opportunity at the end of it all to run the NYC marathon alongside Bryan Steinhauer on the Minds Over Matter team.
New York City Marathon
It was August 3, 2008 that Bryan woke up from his 3 month long coma. Bed ridden at 96 pounds without even the ability to turn over in bed… No one could have even imagined Bryan Steinhauer running 26.2 miles and crossing the finish line of the biggest race in the world. Yet there was no better way for Bryan to show how his brain injury was anything but an ending for him… So when he crossed that finish line on November 3, 2013 , he showed the world that anything is possible. As long as you keep your mind on it. Now every year there is a new team of driven young professionals who want to put their own mind over matter, and cross that finish line in the biggest race in the world. Are you down to be next?
